Weekend Review

Weekend Overview: This weekend really need a shot in the arm. Someone needed to step up and give a big performance but no one did. It's actually difficult to find races to highlight this week.

Performance of the Week: I'll go with the Biancone come backer, Cosmonaut. Sure he was 4/5 and did exactly what was expected in a pretty shabby allowance. But his physical appearance was impeccable, and he galloped down the lane with ears pricked earning himself a 104 Beyer Speed Figure. This horse is going to win himself some stakes race this year. Watch for him especially at Saratoga but maybe even as soon as the Woodford Reserve on Derby day.

Race of the Week: It's hard to give out this accolade as no race was really inspiring however the Bed O'Roses was a decent race to watch with Magnolia Jackson turning back Any Limit on the front end only to get cut down by Carmandia who came from last right up the rail.

Flop of the Weekend: Preakness hopeful Etude looked like a nice emerging horse but his star came crashing down to earth with a terrible performance in the Federico Tesio. He basically had no excuse he simply didn't fire.

TCR Mover’s and Shakers: The big mover this week was Master Command. His G-3 win at Hawthorne moved him from 16th overall to 2nd overall. Quite a leap but then his total score is about half of top ranked Invasor's. There is no doubt that Invasor is first and the rest are basically no where. One The Acorn also moved to 3rd in the Turf division with a win in the San Juan Capistrano. The standings will more or less be in limbo now until Derby weekend. That's where we'll see some things take shape.

Tip O’the Cap: I'll go with my old boy Sweet Return who tried to take the 14f San Juan Capistrano Handicap all the way on the lead. Only one horse got past him in the end. It was a pretty good performance from him considering the fact that he's never really been effective beyond 10f. I'd love to see this old warrior win a 12f stakes race sometime.

KC Handicapping: It was a drab weekend and a drab performance by yours truly. The San Simeon came off the grass and thus all my plays were moot. I have to stop betting Jerkens horses because they seem to beat me when I don't like them and they never run well when I do like them. The maiden looked for a moment as if it would work out. Sale Pending ran a blinder and looked like he might go on at the 1/8th pole but he got swamped and overtaken on the outside. My overall performance is now just barely positive. I need to get back on song.

Cumulative record of selected horses: 5(2)-0-0-2 (-$10.00 -100.00% ROI)
Overall record: 186(73)-37-29-29 (+$10.00 +2.68% ROI)
