BC Turf

The Turf this year is a strange race. All year people have been predicting a European domination but the overseas challenge has shown up virtually toothless. I personally wouldn’t play Hurricane Run if you paid me to do it. He shows all the signs of a horse who is over the top. Andre Fabre said it best in the summer. He said he has run him more like a British horse this year rather than a French horse. The British are primed for the summer, the French for the Fall. That is why French horses have the success that they do in the BC. Red Rocks is no where near good enough and while I love Scorpion I think it’s a huge ask to get him to win a race like this with just one prep this year. It’s not quite shades of Da Hoss but I would be surprised. I wont be surprised however if he performs the best of the Europeans. He is the only horse I like to break up the American juggernaut. Better Talk Now is a spent force and I wont use him either. The 3 Americans I’m going to use wont take any imagination. English Channel, Cacique and Go Deputy have been class acts all year and they should dominate the proceedings. English Channel has always worried me with his headstrong ways but I think he’ll have the measure of Cacique going 12f. I think the Frankel horse is classy but I see him getting worn down late on. English Channel I think on his best day is the best American in this race. Go Deputy is the best stayer in my opinion. He acts on any ground and he loves going a distance. I am counting on good ground but if the turf is actually soft Go Deputy may become my primary. He is consistent and very tough. Icy Atlantic will cut out the gallop but unlike last year he wont create a false pace. Last year Shake The Bank went crazy and Shirocco basically went wire wire in front of a sleeping field who though they could easily come from off the pace because of that rabbit out there. It was an illusion that Soumillion capitalized on but there wont be anything like that this year. I think the pace will be modest and that at the line there will be little to find between English Channel, Go Deputy, Scorpion and Cacique.

1) English Channel
2) Go Deputy
3) Scorpion
