Had Your Break today?

I work with the stock market and with the tumultuous events that took place yesterday it seems like I haven't taken a deep breath for over 24 hours. Things have settled down a bit and it actually worked out quite nicely for us but I decided I needed to take a mental break and for me nothing is quite as relaxing as sitting down with the form and trying to make sense of the madness. Gulfstream has some interesting races on tap for today so I'll have a crack at a few of them

Race #5
Very tough race to parse I see 3 horses who I'd be interested in playing in the top spot. Turf races are all about class and Rising Moon has class by association. His figures aren't very good but in his career debut he was narrowly beaten by Manchu Prince, next out after switching barns he was just beaten by a bunch of good horses like Devil's Preacher and the Canadian hotshot Malakoff. Its been a year since his last race but his workouts have been good and he may just be ready to fire. Mantle is the favorite and should be based on his figs and his connections but he's found ways to lose so fr in his career and I just may look to get him beaten here again. A real bomb worth checking out is With Honour. His trainer is 0 for 13 at the meet and is better known for getting big priced winners at Keeneland and Saratoga but he's very good with Turf horses and this 3/4 sibling to With Anticipation showed some talent in his first start which was an off the turf event. He hit the gate pretty hard but rallied well on the inside to be 4th. A switch to his preferred surface may be just the ticket, although no works have been reported since his last race Sheppard has a way of getting his horses ready that isn't always captured from clockers corner.

1)With Honour
2)Rising Moon
3)Mantle

Race #6
This race seems to have a lot of speed. Magical Ride should get some attention and she certainly is capable of winning this race but given the way she ended last year she's a bad gamble. As simplistic as it sounds I simply like the Pletcher horse, Extra Classy. Todd's squad is razor sharp right now and this filly, although not earning a big fig first out showed all the signs that she is a decent racehorse. She settled well on the outside and despite gawking a bit in the stretch she won a shade easily. I might use Mostbeautifulstorm underneath because we may get a pace meltdown and Silverinyourpocket certainly has a chance as well. Silverinyourpocket was the workmate of Curlin and it will be interesting to see how she does here ahead of Curlin proposed stakes debut.

1)Extra Classy
2)Mostbeautifulstorm
3)Silverinyourpocket

Race #8
What a race this is, 6 of the 8 runners have a good shot and its an interesting clash of up and comers and comebackers who are trying to get on track again. Justa Streak should be favoured and given Pletcher's red hot for he's tough to oppose. But I'm not all that convinced that he can take early pressure while stretching out for the first time. Carvajal should provide pace pressure and Political Force and Truer Than True should be attending the pace. I don't think the pace will be suicidal though and they will be mindful of the 3 quality closers in here. I am very interested in Truer Than True because he should be a good price and he's in excellent form. He's obviously fit because he hasn't worked since his last two starts, both of them wins. But Despite his comparable speed figures I don't think he can run with this class. I was also very interested in Politcal Force because it seems that Jerkens owns Gulfstream at the moment. He gets the #1 rider and is very dangerous second off the shelf. But I do worry that this horse hasn't been able to win consistently despite showing promise. I do think he is good enough to make the lead at the 1/8th pole. I think his participation is key to preventing Justa Streak from getting brave but I think he comes apart late on and in this type of race that will see him passed. Barbican is a horse I touted for the Triple Crown races last year. Early on he looked as good as Bernardini, an injury prevented us from seeing how good he was. His first start back was a complete washout. He missed the break in a distance that was too short for him. They weren't going very fast up front and his race was over early on. But in the straight he showed that he still has the old acceleration. The thing I like about him the most is that he doesn't have to come from way back. He has a bit of speed so he should be rallying from mid-pack and catching the weary Political Force late on.

1)Barbican
2)Political Force
3)Justa Streak
